Big Words a Mistake

This article looks at how scientists at a major conference were told to use smaller works such as human caused rather than anthropogenic when speaking to wider audiences in order to properly convey when is going on.

Haha that is too much! But, it does make sense. People may be turned off if they hear these big terms and they might think the situation doesn’t apply to them. If I hadn’t taken this class, I would’ve appreciated their use of small words to convey what’s happening in the environment. It gives a general sense of the situation without making it seem like they’re putting anyone off or trying to make them feel inferior or stupid. Way to go, scientists!

i find this very relevant because when i was writing my paper for this class, my girlfriend actually asked me what the word anthropogenic meant. if people are not exposed to a certain environment then they may not know the words that are associated with those niches. I do not think that it implies stupidity, just that we need to seek better education and have a diverse set of knowledge.
